Twice every year, representatives from property management firms, social service agencies and government agencies meet together at the Housing Partnership Workgroup. The goal is to create new partnerships between property managers and service providers which mutually benefit low income applicants/tenants and affordable properties. This is accomplished through opening channels of communication, facilitating housing of households with admissions barriers, working together to reduce turnover and cost caused by evictions, and mutually supporting successful tenancies and long-term housing stability. In November 2016, four families were displaced from their homes after a fire destroyed four of six townhomes at NE 27th Avenue and Killingsworth in Portland. Upon learning of the news, PCRI reached out to affordable housing provider Sabin CDC, who owns the property that was impacted by the fire, offering to assist in finding homes for the displaced families. Happily, two of the families recently moved into nearby PCRI rental homes with help from community partner Self Enhancement, Inc., ensuring the families remain in affordable homes and are able to stay in a familiar neighborhood.
